Atomik Climbing Holds is a climbing gear brand founded in Provo, Utah, in 2002.
Atomik Climbing Holds offers a lifetime warranty and says it has no warranty department, because the department would have nothing to do. The company makes everything in Provo and has poured more than 2,000,000 holds there since 2002.
Owner Kenny Matys was competing as a professional climber by 1989 and made it to the IFSC World Cup circuit and the X Games. He also set routes, in the days before impact drivers and scissor lifts. Once, at the very top of a 30-foot ladder, he felt it slip out from under him. He was clipped in with two points of protection, and he later wrote that "aside from making an awesome crashing sound, all was well."
Each hold is cast from polyurethane resin around embedded grade 8 zinc washers, and Climbing Business Journal has counted Atomik among the handful of major hold brands still producing holds in house. The company says its rare failures usually come down to a crooked washer or an undrilled tower, never the structure. The holds turn up on NBC's American Ninja Warrior and at military facilities in the US and Canada, and the warranty department still does not exist.
Atomik's Measured Crimps step from half an inch thick to an inch and a half, with edges cut at 60, 75, 90 and 105 degrees so climbers can train by the number.
