Riverton, UtahSince 2020

Ayla & Co is a pack and bag brand founded in Riverton, Utah, in 2020.

In its first year, Ayla & Co took a million-dollar loss on a stolen shipping container. Nikki and Brody Day had launched the Riverton diaper bag company in September 2020, after a Kickstarter raised $30,000 in 24 hours. Brody lost his job just before launch, and Nikki homeschooled all four kids that year. "Looking back, I'm not quite sure how we survived," she told Utah Business.

The organized diaper bags Nikki Day tried made her feel "like I was giving up my old self." Then the family got a minivan with a built-in vacuum. She thought it was silly until she found herself vacuuming the stroller before it went in the trunk. The first product bundled a vegan leather diaper bag with a vacuum the size of a tumbler. The bag has 16 numbered pockets, so a parent holding a crying baby can tell a partner the binky is in pocket seven.

Five years in, the company had sold more than 110,000 items with Day as its only full-time employee. The Ayla Mini is now the top seller. Day has said she hopes to sell the business within five years. Until then, the binky stays in pocket seven.

Fun fact

The founders loved the name Ayla, pronounced eye-la, long before their first bag existed, and the company says it means oak tree in Hebrew.
