Made By Mary is an accessories brand founded in Utah in 2013. It is headquartered in Bluffdale, Utah.
Made by Mary's first equipment budget was a Christmas bonus. Mary Moody had learned about stamped jewelry from YouTube videos, and her husband agreed to put his holiday bonus toward her tools, according to the show notes for Jenna Kutcher's Goal Digger podcast. The tools have since multiplied into a studio in Bluffdale, where the company says its jewelry team has grown past 40 people.
The tools came out of a hard year. In 2013 Moody and her husband had their first child earlier than planned, and money was tight. She was also dealing with postpartum depression, Katie Couric Media reported. Teaching herself to repair a broken necklace turned into what that piece called a lifeline.
The idea was personal before it was a product. She wore a necklace stamped with the letter M, and her son held onto it while she nursed him. "So I made a necklace," she wrote in a 2025 post on Owala's site. "And when I wore it, it felt like wearing my heart right there on my chest."
The first store was an Etsy shop, which brought in all of her early traffic. Her daily goals were small on purpose, and one reward was taking her son to lunch after three sales. That is a bonus structure most toddlers would sign without reading. She reached 100 sales in her first three months and still did not hire anyone for two years.
Hiring was the turning point. According to the podcast notes, help stopped being optional once the orders outgrew one person, and learning to trust other people with the work was part of the change. The company says its team has since made hundreds of thousands of pieces for customers around the world.
The method has not changed much since the Etsy days. The company says its staff cut every bar from raw sheets of metal and stamp each letter one at a time, then polish and assemble each piece by hand. Its disc necklaces come in 14k gold filled or sterling silver. Personalized pieces are made to order, so each listing shows a production time that comes before shipping.
One line in the FAQ deserves a read. Alongside the hand stamping, the company says it sources some components and finished products from partners in the US and abroad. The Utah part of the story is the bench work on the personalized pieces.
In July 2025 the studio's work showed up next to a water bottle. Owala released a $100 set that paired a 24-ounce FreeSip with a Made by Mary necklace. The set also came with a brass and enamel charm shaped like the bottle itself, for anyone who felt their hydration was underaccessorized.
The M necklace is still the template. Customers send in initials and dates, and someone in a Bluffdale studio stamps them into metal one letter at a time.
In August 2021 Jennifer Lopez picked a July lotus birth flower necklace from Made by Mary, and her daughter Emme chose the February violet.
