Which European gear brands have their US headquarters in Utah

Salomon and Atomic keep their American offices in an old can factory in Ogden, and Rossignol, Petzl, POC and LOWA keep US offices in Utah too. None are made here.

Salomon's business in the Americas works out of a former can factory. Amer Sports, which owns Salomon and Atomic, moved its American winter and outdoor company into the old American Can Company plant at 2030 Lincoln Avenue in Ogden in 2007. Salomon is still a French brand run from Annecy, and Atomic is still Austrian. Utah is where their American offices are, along with the US offices of at least six other European gear brands. None of them is listed as made in Utah.

Quick answers

Where is Salomon's US headquarters?

In Ogden, Utah, at 2030 Lincoln Avenue, in the former American Can Company plant. Salomon's global headquarters is in Annecy, France.

Where is Atomic's US headquarters?

Also in Ogden, in the same Amer Sports office as Salomon.

Where are Atomic skis made?

In Austria and Bulgaria, not in Utah.

Where is Rossignol's US headquarters?

In Park City, Utah. The group is run from Saint-Jean-de-Moirans, France.

Where is Petzl America?

In West Valley City, Utah, since 2014. Petzl is based in Crolles, France.

Why is Salomon's US headquarters in Ogden

Because Amer Sports chose Ogden for the American company it set up for its winter and outdoor brands. Mike Dowse, who ran that unit, gave the reason SGB reported at the time: being in the heart of the Rocky Mountains put the company close to the people who use its gear. The unit was set to begin operating from the old can plant in August 2007.

The office has grown since. Utah approved incentives in December 2018 for up to 155 new jobs at the Ogden headquarters, and the state's announcement named Salomon, Atomic, Arc'teryx and Armada among the brands it houses. Steve Doolan has run Salomon Americas as president from its regional headquarters in Ogden since October 2023.

Salomon began in 1947 in an Annecy workshop, where François Salomon made ski edges. Amer Sports bought it from Adidas in 2005. Amer trades on the New York Stock Exchange, and China's ANTA Sports holds 41.7 percent of it, according to Amer's 2025 annual report.

Where are Atomic skis made

In Austria and Bulgaria, about 400,000 pairs a year. Atomic shares the Ogden office with Salomon, and Utah's 2018 incentive announcement named it among the brands housed there. None of the skis are pressed in Utah.

Atomic started in 1955, when Alois Rohrmoser, a cartwright, began building wooden skis in Wagrain, Austria, with four employees. In 1981 it opened a plant in Chepelare, Bulgaria, which made it the first Western company to build a factory in the Eastern Bloc. Amer Sports bought Atomic in 1994.

Which other European gear brands have US offices in Utah

These are the ones in the directory, each checked against at least two sources. The North American HQ in Utah list has the full set, including a few that are not European.

Why do European outdoor brands put their US offices in Utah

The companies have given their own reasons, and they mostly come back to the mountains and the people who want to live near them.

Rossignol came by way of a surf company. Quiksilver bought Rossignol in 2005 for $560 million and moved its North American headquarters from Vermont to Park City before selling it in 2008 for $147 million. Francois Goulet, then president of Rossignol North America, called Park City "the cultural center of the outdoor lifestyle." Quiksilver left, and the office stayed. Rossignol later told Ski Utah14 that its Park City team can test product on the hill and debrief at the office "all before lunch."

POC came the same way, through an owner. Salt Lake City's Black Diamond bought the Swedish helmet maker in 2012 and moved its North American office from Aspen to Park City in November 2014. POC's marketing director at the time called the region "a hotbed for outdoor-enthusiast professionals." Black Diamond sold POC to Bahrain's Investcorp in 2015 for $65 million, and the Park City office is still there.

Petzl America spent years in Clearfield. Petzl decided to invest $20 million in a new North American headquarters in West Valley City, ten minutes from the Salt Lake City airport, and the new building was completed in 2014. LOWA21 spent years in Connecticut before opening its US headquarters in May 2026 inside the Salt Lake City hub of its Italian owner, Tecnica Group. When SCOTT USA moved its office to Salt Lake City in 2013, a company representative told Cycling West22 that Utah was a little easier to get to than Sun Valley, Idaho, where SCOTT started with an aluminum ski pole in 1958.

Is Salomon a Utah company

No, and neither is any brand in the table. Each one is owned and run from somewhere else, and none is tagged Made in Utah in the directory. What Utah has is the American office: sales, service, distribution and, in Ogden, a lot of warehouse space. That is why these brands carry the North American HQ label in the directory and never the Made in Utah or Created in Utah ones.

The can factory, for its part, outlasted the cans. It has now held the American end of two European ski companies for nearly two decades.
