Salomon is a footwear brand founded in Annecy, France, in 1947. Its North American headquarters is in Ogden, Utah.
Salomon runs its Americas business out of a tin can factory. Amer Sports, its parent, moved its US winter and outdoor unit into the old American Can Company plant at 2030 Lincoln Avenue in Ogden in 2007. Mike Dowse, who ran the unit, said Ogden "topped our list in all the critical categories." Portland, Oregon, the previous home, did not get a quote.
Salomon began in 1947, when François Salomon made ski edges in a small Annecy workshop with his wife and son Georges. Adidas owned it from 1997 until Amer Sports bought it in 2005. Amer went private under an ANTA-led group in 2019 and returned to the New York Stock Exchange in 2024.
Utah approved incentives in 2018 for up to 155 new jobs at the Ogden headquarters. Amer's latest annual report lists a 305,735 square foot distribution center there, and since October 2023 Steve Doolan has run Salomon Americas as president from the Ogden office.
Nothing is made here. The report files Ogden under warehouse and distribution, and Salomon itself is still run from Annecy. The skis and trail shoes only pass through. The can factory outlasted the cans and will probably outlast a few more owners.
In 2019 Amer Sports added up to 110 jobs at the Ogden office to handle consumer and after-sales service for Arc'teryx, Salomon's sister brand.
I've worn every version of the Speedcross. We love Salomon.
