Kortni Jeane is an apparel brand founded in Provo, Utah, in 2013.
In October 2016, Kortni Jeane gave away more than 1,000 swimsuits around Utah Valley, and the only way to get one was to show up already wearing one. The Provo company would post a meeting spot on social media and give people a half-hour window. October was its slowest month. Its team came dressed as unicorns, and one stop was the Provo City Library.
Kortni Niccoli had been sewing swimsuits for family and friends since high school. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, she registered the Kortni Jeane name in Provo in 2013. Her savings went into manufacturing the first line, so the marketing fell to her personal Instagram. When she first downloaded the app, she wrote, she had no idea everyone could see her one picture 10 times, each in a different filter.
The company says each color is made in limited quantities and is gone once it sells out. Matching a stranger at the pool is unlikely. Matching your own family, from men's boardies to baby rompers, is the point. Retired colors do resurface in a discounted archive. Niccoli still runs the company from Provo. Her favorite holiday, she has written, is Halloween.
Kortni Jeane, a swimwear company, also sells a $135 snowsuit called the Marshmallow Snow Suit, in sizes from 3 months to 5 years.
