Love Your Pet Raw Foods is a pet goods brand headquartered in Park City, Utah. It was founded in 1990.
From May 1 to October 15, Love Your Pet Raw Foods suspends its 12-pack and 24-pack orders unless the buyer pays to expedite shipping. The Park City company sells frozen raw meat for dogs and cats, and summer is not on its side. Orders also have to arrive by Wednesday at noon to ship the following Monday.
The company began with a sick dog. Valarie Kamdar's golden retriever, Jackson, was accidentally poisoned, and the company's site says they brought him back on raw wild meat mixed with fresh organic vegetables, at what it calls "extreme lengths and unreasonable expense." Jackson recovered and lived a long, healthy life. When they looked for that kind of food to keep feeding their dogs, they found nothing like it on the market.
The Park Record was still calling it Love Your Pet Bakery in 2018. Kamdar first made raw food in a production plant in Washington state, the company says. She now sources and produces it in Utah. A small "Made in Park City" logo sits on the homepage among its "Featured In" badges.
The food comes as flash-frozen one-pound blocks of chopped meat and ground bone. Its bison is organic and free range from Montana, the company says. Its wild elk and venison come from a private network of trackers who help manage herd sizes once a year. For the vegetable entrees, it adds broccoli and Norwegian ocean kelp, among other things.
The company writes about its meat with more feeling than most labels. Its site calls it a protein source pets "would get on their knees and thank you for, if they had knees." The harder claim sits in every page footer, "Absolutely Zero Recalls," and it is the company's own count.
You do not have to order it frozen by mail. Utah's Own lists Whole Foods in Park City and Barking Cat among the places that carry it. One Park City customer says on the homepage that she has fed it to six dogs over more than 25 years, which is about as long a trial as any pet food gets.
In 2018 SCORE and Sam's Club picked Love Your Pet as one of two American Small Business Champions from Utah.
