Alpine Distilling is a food and drink brand founded in Park City, Utah, in 2016.
Rob Sergent of Alpine Distilling in Park City is a fifth-generation distiller and, by his wife Sara's account, the first in his family tree to do it legitimately. The relatives before him were moonshiners and bootleggers, and one grandfather made moonshine for Al Capone. Rob got there by way of 15 years at Johnson & Johnson.
The job kept him traveling so much that his 11-year-old thought his work was packing a suitcase. After training with Kentucky master distillers, he opened the distillery with Sara in 2016. The whiskey is Rob's department, and the gin is hers.
Sara studied distillation in Scotland, and in 2024 she became the second woman from the U.S. inducted into the Gin Guild in London. In 2026 she was a James Beard Award semifinalist in beverage service. The company's site goes further, calling her the most decorated botanical distiller in America.
In 2019 the couple opened a pie bar in a Main Street basement, where a local baker's pies came warm with Gold Creek cheddar. On one wall hung the doors of Rob's great-grandmother's pie safe. Of everything this family has kept behind closed doors, pie is the only one that never needed a lookout.
Alpine Distilling's gin still is named Olivia, and it runs entirely on steam.
