Drifter Blades is a camping and overland brand headquartered in Park City, Utah. It was founded in 2020.
Two Drifter Blades knives come with a list of places they cannot go. Their handles are wrapped in cross-cut mammoth tusk, and because of state rules on mammoth, the shop will not ship them to California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New York or Washington, D.C. The mammoth has been extinct for thousands of years and still has paperwork. The knives are made in Park City.
Lucas Adams founded the company in 2020. His first knife was a small fixed blade for chores on the family farm. Later came big game quartered miles into the backcountry and fish cleaned in Southeast Alaska. The company's story also mentions a duty blade carried every day "to help save the life of another."
The shop makes fixed blades and tomahawks, mostly in 80CRV2 high carbon steel or AEB-L stainless. The Pathfinder has a hook at the pommel so your grip does not slide off the end. The Bruin tomahawk has a slightly bearded head for carving and quartering game. Handle scales include black walnut and desert ironwood.
Several pieces are one of a kind, and most listings on the site show as sold out. The mammoth tusk cleaver runs $925, and the Pathfinder listing throws in free shipping and free name engraving.
The custom shop takes commissions for a first hunting knife or a graduation. It will also work a dog's ashes into a knife or axe, so a dog that spent years on the trail can keep going afield with its person.
The Recon Hawk, a 12-inch pack hawk from Drifter Blades, has handle scales cut from a locally sourced bourbon oak barrel.
