Timpanogos Hiking Co.

Timpanogos Hiking Co. is an apparel brand headquartered in Provo, Utah. It was founded in 2022.

Timpanogos Hiking Co. says its most popular product is free. It is a cloth summit badge, and in 2025 the Provo company handed out more than 7,000 of them to hikers who finished routes in its Timpanogos Hiking Challenge. The idea is borrowed. Starting in 1930, anyone who reached the top of Mount Timpanogos on the annual hike got a badge, until the hike ended in 1971 because the crowds had grown too large.

Joe Vogel started the label in 2022 as a side project while he was a tenured professor living in Massachusetts, after 15 years away from Utah. The first shirts were print-on-demand. In February 2023 he signed a lease on University Avenue in Provo, and the buildout and stock came out of his retirement account.

It began in Massachusetts, so this is a Provo-run company rather than a Provo-born one. The shop sells hiking tees and hoodies, and the company now says its shirts are screen printed in Utah. Vogel promised a new badge design every year so people could collect them, which means the most popular product is also the hardest one to finish.

Fun fact

Alfred Pace, a rancher turned Provo City Power lineman, is believed to be the only person who collected a complete set of the original Timpanogos summit badges.
