Beddy's is a home and furniture brand founded in Utah in 2014. It is headquartered in South Jordan, Utah.
Beddy's first product testers were on the take. Betsy Mikesell's older daughter bribed the twins to sleep in the zip-up prototypes that Mikesell and her mother had made with the biggest zippers they could find. The idea came from a top bunk, where Mikesell climbed up to show the twins how to make the bed and struggled with it herself. Mikesell was a hairdresser. She and her running partner Angie White were Riverton moms then.
The real launch was an accident. Mikesell meant to post a product video on the company's Facebook page and put it on her personal page instead. By morning it had more than 300,000 views. The website had nothing to sell yet, but about 2,000 people left email addresses on the first day. A 2014 Kickstarter followed and raised $108,000 in 40 days. Both husbands eventually quit their jobs to run the warehouse.
Mikesell still runs the company from South Jordan as CEO. The bedding has a sewn-in bottom sheet on an elastic base, and zippers down both sides that meet at the foot. It also fits beds pushed against a wall and RV beds, where a sheet was never going to get tucked anyway.
On CNBC's West Texas Investors Club, Rooster McConaughey offered Beddy's $200,000 plus a line of credit for a 25 percent stake that would drop to 18 percent once repaid.
