Lifetime Products is a home and furniture brand founded in Utah in 1986. It is headquartered in Clearfield, Utah.
Barry Mower has a degree in microbiology and more than 60 patents, and his business started with a basketball pole. In 1972 he built a sturdier one for his backyard out of pipe and plywood. A classified ad brought his first sale. The business grew into a sporting goods store. In March 1986 it became Lifetime Products, now based in Clearfield and named for the goal of building things that last.
Soon came the patented Quick Adjust hoop, which slides a rim between 7.5 and 10 feet so a whole family can share one driveway. Then Lifetime pointed its blow molding at furniture, with a folding picnic table in 1995 and a banquet table in 1998. A sales manager's pitch in 2000 was that other makers bolted legs straight into a wooden tabletop, where in time the bolts stripped out.
Lifetime is still privately held. In 2020 Lifetime broke ground in Clearfield on a shipping building of about 670,000 square feet. Lifetime also builds in Xiamen, China, and Mascot, Tennessee. For camp, the output that matters is a hard cooler, anywhere from 28 to 115 quarts, and the folding table you set it on.
In 2010 Lifetime unveiled the EcoHouse, a 377-square-foot shelter built with the same molding and steel technology as its storage sheds, priced at $12,000 to $15,000 a unit.
