Klymit is a camping and overland brand founded in Utah in 2007. It is headquartered in Kaysville, Utah.
In July 2009 Klymit showed KSL a vest that fills with argon, inside a freezer at 28 degrees below zero at the Autoliv factory in Ogden. Autoliv had helped the young Ogden company develop the fabric weave, KSL reported, and CEO Nate Alder said the vest meant "you're able to control the elements."
The idea came from scuba diving in Brazil, where Alder, then a Brigham Young University student, learned that divers put noble gas in dry suits to stay longer in frigid water. Klymit incorporated in April 2007, and his stated goal was to make it the world leader in noble gas technology. The early website committed to the letter K, down to a Kontact Us link and the line "You Kontrol the Elements."
By 2012 the site still sold argon canisters, but it also listed the Inertia X Frame, a body-mapped pad one reviewer described as "more space than pad." Air is what stuck. Inflatable products now carry a limited lifetime warranty.
MacNeill Pride Group, a Centre Partners portfolio company, bought Klymit in July 2021. Klymit is based in Kaysville and says it tests its gear in Utah's deserts and mountains, neither of which requires a canister.
Klymit's early website said industry leaders had dubbed its argon technology "The Holy Grail of Insulation," and printed the phrase with a trademark symbol.
