RBH Sound

RBH Sound is a consumer tech brand headquartered in Layton, Utah. It was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1976.

The initials on RBH Sound belong to Roger B. Hassing, who spent the early 1970s building loudspeaker components and enclosures for other speaker makers around Los Angeles. In 1976 he started RBH Sound Laboratories. The company moved to Utah in the 1980s and has been run from a 45,000 square foot building in Layton since the early 2000s.

By the early 1990s Hassing was selling internationally. He never married, and Audioholics wrote that he considered his employees his family and held regular round table meetings to hear how they thought the business should run. He once told its editor at a CES dinner that "truth has become a marketable commodity."

In June 2019 Todd A. Stewart, a former electrical engineer whose son's woodworking company was an RBH vendor, bought controlling interest, and Hassing kept a partial stake. Hassing died in Layton in January 2023. The company says it still offers a series of products manufactured in the United States, without saying which ones, so the Utah tie here is the Layton headquarters. The catalog now carries a 50th Anniversary series, a long run for a company that started out building boxes for other people's speakers.

Fun fact

In the early 1980s RBH speakers became the best-selling loudspeaker brand at Inkley's Electronics, a Utah retailer with stores around the state.
