Lizard Skins is a cycling brand founded in Utah in 1993.
Lizard Skins started small enough, founder Brian Fruit has said, that the whole business fit on one table. Fruit met Lance Larson in 1992, and Larson had the idea: neoprene fork boots and chainstay protectors. Their first ad, a twelfth-page in Mountain Bike Action, went by FedEx to beat the deadline. The first month brought in $340. By 1996 the business ran out of the back of an old building in Pleasant Grove.
Larson made the product in Utah, and Fruit sold it from California until 1995. The Pleasant Grove building had a bike shop up front, Timpanogos Cyclery, opened as a compromise with a city that wanted sales tax. In 2012 Lizard Skins put its Durasoft Polymer grip on baseball bats. In 2016 it became the official bat grip of Major League Baseball, and the company says more than 150 MLB players use it. The one-table company now distributes in more than 80 countries.
Marucci Sports bought Lizard Skins in 2021, and in September 2026 a group led by Marucci's managers bought both from Fox Factory for $225 million. The mailing address is Baton Rouge now. The customer service number still starts with 801.
The name Lizard Skins and its original yin and yang logo came from a co-founder's brother, who invented both for a college class project with no real company in mind.
Another great local company. I love their cushy grips.
