SilencerCo is a hunting and archery brand headquartered in West Valley City, Utah. It was founded in 2008.
SilencerCo's old About page promised a lifetime warranty even for problems that weren't a product defect. Its repair turnaround, the page said, "even warranties stupid…once." The company builds its suppressors in house at a plant in West Valley City.
Jonathon Shults and Josh Waldron founded it in 2008, and the company says it started with two men in a garage. The first product was the Sparrow, a .22 caliber silencer. By 2013 SilencerCo was on the Inc. 5000 with three-year growth of 2,084 percent. In 2015 it began selling EasyTrust, a $130 legal service to walk buyers through federal approval, which CNN said could take nine or 10 months.
Sales later fell. Layoffs in early 2017 left about 290 employees, and in 2018 Shults and Waldron stepped down.
CNN also pointed out that silencers don't actually silence gunfire, which is why they are more accurately called suppressors. The 72,000 square foot plant that makes them sits just south of the USANA Amphitheatre, the quiet neighbor of a loud one.
SilencerCo's Maxim 50 is a muzzle-loading rifle with a built-in suppressor, and it is exempt from the National Firearms Act.
