StealthGearUSA is a hunting and archery brand headquartered in Lindon, Utah. It was founded in 2012.
A StealthGearUSA Ventcore holster has 30 individual components, each handmade to order, according to a 2018 profile of the company, and the shop now builds them in Lindon. The design centers on a padded mesh backing, and the enemy it was drawn up to beat is sweat. The founder wrote that he did not want leather "tucked in my waistband and soaked with sweat every day."
Sweat was the second problem. The first came in 2012, when Paul Laemmlen's loaded handgun fell out of a leather holster onto the floor of a busy store. A farm upbringing had left him handy with tools, so he built a replacement in his basement. When friends and family asked for copies, it became a business. The company says that by the end of 2013 it had shipped to all 50 states and 9 countries.
A ConcealedCarry.com reviewer, Jacob Paulsen, put the holsters "on the more expensive side of the industry" and found them harder to get on and off than comparable styles. The company now advertises more than 1,000 holster options, each cut for a specific firearm. Laemmlen set out to make one, for himself.
A February 2013 StealthGearUSA homepage announcing the company's launch priced most holsters at $99 in black or $115 in camo Kydex, with a wait of 2 to 4 weeks.
