Utah Trikes is a cycling brand founded in Spanish Fork, Utah, in 2006. It is headquartered in Springville, Utah.
Utah Trikes ships recumbents around the world in refrigerator boxes so a buyer can pull one out and ride. Ashley Guy started the company in 2006 in a 1,000 square foot space in Spanish Fork, after carpal tunnel syndrome made his daily road rides too painful. A recumbent trike, ridden reclined with legs out front, spared his wrists.
Guy set it up as an internet company, he has said, because he knew local demand would not be enough. It moved to a 12,000 square foot Payson storefront in 2009 and now works out of Springville. The showroom also sells other companies' trikes, from Catrike to HP Velotechnik.
Utah Trikes powder coats in house in more than 35 colors, and a machinery supplier reported in 2015 that the crew bends and TIG welds its own frame tubes. The UTCustom line includes the Eco Quad SX, a four wheel recumbent. It also includes a hand and foot version of the Sun HT-3 handcycle. "We're the place that manufacturers come to when they need something unique," Guy told the Daily Herald.
Early buyers were mostly older men, Guy said in 2018. Now, he said, younger riders come in looking for "a pedal-powered ATV."
Utah Trikes sells a $235 part called the UTCustom Freewheel Posi Differential, which it pitches as a way to "get rid of one-wheel drive for good."
