Gozney is a kitchen and grill brand founded in Christchurch, England, in 2010. Its North American headquarters is in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Tom Gozney spent a couple of hours researching how to build a brick pizza oven, then started digging the foundations the next morning, according to a profile in Great British Life. A week later he had, in his words, "the ugliest brick oven." The company that grew from it, Gozney, now runs its North American business from Salt Lake City.
The oven came out of supper parties. Tom and his girlfriend Laura had been making pizzas at home, the pizzas were "very average," and he found that even the cheapest ready-made oven cost thousands. So he built one, and friends started arriving with toppings. Gozney's press page dates the company to 2010, and the first products were pre-cast ovens for the home before he moved to restaurants. He says a modular commercial oven that two people could install in a day made Gozney the UK leader in commercial wood-fired ovens within six months.
The home oven that people recognize is the Roccbox, which launched in 2016. Laura named it, Great British Life reported, "because it's literally a stone in a box." Gozney says it reaches 950 degrees Fahrenheit and cooks a pizza in under sixty seconds, and that a silicone jacket reduces the risk of burns, a sensible feature for a portable oven that runs that hot. The Dome followed in 2021, and CookOut News reported that it sold out within hours. The current Dome (Gen 2) lists at $2,299.99 and weighs 136.7 pounds, so it is less something you bring to a party than something the party comes to.
Gozney reached the US in early 2022 and put an office in Park City. By that June CookOut News counted around 15 employees there, and in January 2023 TownLift reported that Gozney had hired Denny Bruce, a Park City resident and former Traeger executive, as CEO, with Tom moving to executive chairman. Gozney's pitch for the location, as TownLift summarized it, was that Park City is a hub for growing outdoor brands such as Skullcandy and Kodiak Cakes.
Gozney's press page now lists its North American headquarters as Salt Lake City, its US company is registered there, and a Top Workplaces profile counts 54 US employees. Global headquarters stays in Bournemouth, England, so this is a listing for the American side of a British company.
An ugly brick oven in a Dorset garden now has an American headquarters in Salt Lake City, which is more than most garden projects can say.
Gozney's first Roccbox campaign on Indiegogo in 2016 raised more than $1.2 million from 2,481 backers.
