NutriMill is a kitchen and grill brand headquartered in St. George, Utah. It was founded in 1974.
The St. George showroom behind NutriMill keeps a 1952 Bosch mixer on display, and it still works. That is a fair summary of the sales pitch. L'Chef, the company that owns NutriMill, has been the exclusive U.S. agent for Bosch's small appliances for four decades, and its president, Gary Leavitt, has said every box sold in the U.S. and Canada comes through the St. George office.
NutriMill dates its roots to 1974, when the business began as a grain milling company. The company says its teams traveled from home to home long before online videos, teaching families to turn whole grain into flour and flour into bread. A partnership with Bosch soon put the mill and the mixer in the same kitchen.
The pitch has never been subtle. When L'Chef opened a St. George assembly plant in 2014, general manager Dennis Leavitt told St. George News, "Instead of reaching for dead white flour, you can make your own." Few pantry staples have been described with that much hostility.
Gary Leavitt said the company grew fastest after it moved to St. George in 2011. The 2014 plant opened with about 10 employees building the Harvest, then NutriMill's newest mill, with plastic parts made in Leeds, just up Interstate 15. L'Chef had production facilities overseas at the time and said it was working to bring all NutriMill production to Washington County.
The Harvest grinds with corundum stones the company calls near diamond hard, inside a bamboo housing. NutriMill says it is designed and assembled in the USA. The Classic has been the company's best-selling mill for more than 20 years, and it turns out up to 20 cups of flour at a time. Returned mills get a 21-point inspection at the NutriMill factory before they are resold, with the same warranty as new.
Not everything in the catalog is NutriMill's own design. L'Chef also sells Bosch mixers and represents Magimix food processors in the U.S., so a good part of what ships from St. George is somebody else's engineering. The St. George office services the machines it sells across North America.
Leavitt measures the mixer in cookies and minutes. Ten pounds of dough takes about eight minutes in a single knead, he said. The largest stand mixer in its category makes about 120 cookies in a batch, and the Bosch makes 408. Every one of them needs flour, which is where the mill comes in.
NutriMill sells a sweatshirt embroidered in gold with the words Fresh Milled Flour Club.
