Camp Chef is a kitchen and grill brand founded in Logan, Utah, in 1990. It is headquartered in Hyde Park, Utah.
In 2016 the Camp Chef website sold outdoor movie screens, listed right after the propane water heaters. Ty Measom founded Camp Chef in Logan in 1990 on the idea that there had to be a better way to cook outdoors, because, the company says, campers and sportsmen were struggling with the cooking gear they could buy.
His first design grew into the Pro 60, and Camp Chef built a system around it so a griddle or a pizza oven could sit on the same stove. The company called the Bear River Range around Cache Valley a perfect site for product testing. Cast iron arrived about a decade in, and gear for the back patio ten years after that.
Vista Outdoor bought Camp Chef in 2016 for $74 million. Vista later spun its outdoor brands into Revelyst, and Strategic Value Partners bought Revelyst in January 2025. In September 2026 the trade site CookOut News reported that Camp Chef was selling down its full-size grills and griddles, and read it as a sign the brand is leaving grills for camp cooking. If that holds, the company that once sold movie screens will be back to its first idea, 36 years later.
In 2016 Camp Chef carried more than 250 outdoor cooking products with a staff of about 50 people.
