Liberty Safe is a hunting and archery brand headquartered in Payson, Utah. It was founded in 1988.
Liberty Safe's lifetime warranty covers fire and attempted break-ins, and it transfers if you sell the safe or hand it down. If a safe can't be repaired, the company says it will ship and install a new one free. It also hauls the damaged one out of your house. The Payson company would rather move a wrecked safe itself than let any of us near a dolly.
Jay Crosby, who had co-founded the Fort Knox safe company in Orem, started Liberty in 1988 with eight employees building six safes a day. He sold it in 1995, and it has passed through several investment owners since, landing with an affiliate of Monomoy Capital Partners in 2021.
Everything consolidated in Payson in 2001, in a plant that now covers 300,000 square feet. Liberty says it forms each door from one piece of steel in 90 seconds. Its About page puts the American-made share of what it sells at around 95 percent.
Customer service works inside the Payson plant, and the company says several reps built safes on the production floor first. The person answering a warranty call may have built the safe in question.
Liberty Safe lists international dealers as far from Payson as Reykjavik, Iceland, and Almaty, Kazakhstan.
