Minky Couture is a home and furniture brand founded in Layton, Utah, in 2009. It is headquartered in Ogden, Utah.
Minky Couture's first store was an empty building in Layton that once held a mortgage company. Sandi Hendry told KSL she put 20 blankets on its shelves and they sold in a day. She tried 50, and those lasted two. Before that, she sold blankets for cash out of her car in parking lots, which looks like something else entirely from three rows over.
In 2009 Hendry's daughter, Shannon Miller, spent five months in the hospital. Hendry, a former elementary school teacher, couldn't find the blanket she wanted, so Jenna Houston sewed it from minky, a synthetic microfiber. After the store opened in October 2010, Houston and five seamstresses sewed 200 more in one weekend.
The sewing still happens in Utah homes. Seamstresses collect bins of material at the Ogden headquarters two or three times a week. Utah Business put sales at about 80,000 blankets a month in 2025, and Hendry still owns the company.
The seventh store is on Logan's Main Street, in a building Hendry bought from the Wimmer family, whose shop started out selling sewing machines and lasted almost 104 years. Blankets off home sewing machines now sell where Logan used to buy the machines.
Minky Couture blankets went into a private gifting suite tied to the 2026 Grammy Awards, and Utah Business executive editor Catherine Bennett told KUTV that Justin Bieber has one.
Roll up in one of these and you're done for the night. We have a couple at home.
