Taffy Town is a food and drink brand founded in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1916. It is headquartered in West Jordan, Utah.
Taffy Town began with a 5-pound bag of peppermint chews. James Vernon Glade, a Park City miner struggling to pay the bills after his second child was born, spent the change in his pocket on ingredients. Within a couple of months he had a bicycle delivery route and more than 50 accounts, his great-grandson Derek Glade told the West Jordan Journal. The Glade Candy Co. dates to 1916 in Salt Lake City.
For decades Glade was a full-line candy maker. When its salt water taffy drew national attention in the 1970s, the family sold off the other equipment, and in 1994 grandson David Glade renamed the company after the one thing it still made. The taffy is whipped with egg whites instead of pulled, then conditioned in 24-hour batches. The company says the goal is taffy that doesn't leave bits of candy stuck in your teeth.
Great-grandsons Jason and Derek Glade own and run it now. In 2016 the business made the third move in its history, into a 43,000 square foot factory and store in West Jordan that turns out more than 20,000 pounds of taffy a day. The flavor list tops 90. Peppermint is still on it.
Taffy Town's flavor list includes pickle, and a recent flavor of the month was Peach Balsamic Vinegar.
