Pallas Snowboards is a ski and snowboard brand founded in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2013.
A nondescript piece of plastic in the Pallas Snowboards workshop in Salt Lake City wears a label that reads "THIS IS A TOOL," and the company says no tool there works harder. The workshop is a backyard garage by the company's own admission. The crew shows up after 9 to 5 jobs and checks email on the same benches where it glues edges, which is why Pallas warns that nobody answers the phone during the day, or ever.
Stephanie Nitsch cofounded it in fall 2013 with Alister Horn of Chimera Snowboards, which shared its workshop and tools. Nitsch had spent more than a decade in the snowboard business, and she told Utah Stories she wanted to build a women's board from the ground up, "not just decorate a beefy male snowboard with girly graphics." The boards carry a three-year warranty.
Since 2018 production boards have come from a large outside factory, and SLUG's 2024 profile puts Horn and two partners in charge of both brands. The garage keeps the prototypes and its single press. The company calls its fridge notoriously understocked with 3.2 percent beer and La Croix, which sounds about right for people who start work after work.
An early Pallas topsheet by Brisbane illustrator Gemma Davis showed a woman floating in space and decomposing into the natural world, with two foxes wrapped around her.
