PHANTOM Glide is a ski and snowboard brand founded in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2017.
Aspen Skiing Company's tune manager rode a Phantom-treated snowboard 80 times one season and 120 times the next without waxing it once, the Park Record reported. He usually rewaxed every third time out. In fall 2019 his crew at the Aspen Highlands tune shop was treating about 2,300 pairs of rental skis. The treatment came from Salt Lake City, where DPS Skis launched it on Kickstarter on November 1, 2017.
The team behind it tested 50 compound variations, and SnowBrains reported that its chemists came from the University of Utah. Wax sits on top of a base and wears off. Phantom soaks in, and a dose of UV light bonds it there.
The company claims one application lasts the life of the ski. It now sells as PHANTOM Glide and shares a parent company, Drake Holdings, with DPS. The catalog has grown to include a base cleaner and an air freshener. The Nordic version goes on at a dealer with a UV cure station, and senior vice president Thomas Laakso said it was formulated for "non-gravity initiated starts," which is the long way of saying cross-country skiing.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety joined the PHANTOM Glide and DPS product teams full time in October 2024 and took a shareholder stake.
