Rae Basics is a supplement brand founded in Provo, Utah, in 2025.
Rae Basics makes hot chocolate out of grass-fed beef bone broth, and the whole recipe exists so you never find that out by taste. The company started in Provo with a single customer. Skotie Rae, a registered nurse raising three boys, wanted something nourishing to drink every day during IVF, and what she found on the shelf was chalky or loaded with sugar. Her husband, Josh, is a food scientist, so he made her a batch.
Taste was the one thing neither of them would give ground on. Skotie writes on the company's site that a drink with even a faint taste of soup is one "you won't want" every morning. The two spent months at their kitchen counter taste-testing at night, which is a long time to drink beef cocoa on purpose.
A 21 gram scoop carries 14 grams of protein, and the company says more than 10 of those grams are collagen that comes along with the broth. There is no dairy in it. Organic coconut and oat milk make it creamy. Monk fruit sweetens it, so the label reads 0 grams of sugar.
The chocolate flavors finish with a pinch of Redmond's pink salt. That salt comes from about 370 feet under Redmond in central Utah, where a Jurassic sea left it behind.
There are four flavors now, and only Caffeinated Chocolate has any caffeine. Chai is the newest. It is labeled flavor No. 05, and it is the first to ship in the brand's redesigned bag. There is no tea in it, which is how a chai gets to be caffeine free. The rest of the lineup is moving to the new bag one flavor at a time, with the same recipe inside.
The second product covers the other end of the day. NO. 04 is magnesium bisglycinate in capsules, three of them taken before bed. Its magnesium comes from the Dead Sea. Rae Basics now buys minerals from two seas, and only one of them still has water in it.
"As a nurse, I read labels for a living," Skotie writes, and the company posts the paperwork to match. NO. 04 is made by Health Drop MFG in Provo. Every lot goes to Contract Testing Laboratories of America in Spanish Fork. The full report for the current lot is posted on the site, down to lead at 0.007 parts per million. The bone broth mix is blended and packed in small batches in Utah.
The company now counts more than 9,500 customers. The directions still start with a mug and say no blender is needed, which tells you who the first batch was for.
Rae Basics' own fact sheet says its bone broth protein has all nine essential amino acids but too little tryptophan (0.10g per 100g of protein) to count as a complete protein.
