Momentous is a supplement brand headquartered in Park City, Utah. It was founded in Jackson, Wyoming, in 2016.
Matt Wan was still in high school when he set out to build Momentous. By the time the Jackson, Wyoming, supplement company began selling to the public, he was a Harvard freshman, and he told the Jackson Hole News&Guide that running it from campus was "sort of like having a child, then leaving it with the baby-sitter." Momentous is now run from Park City.
The company launched in September 2016 and sold only to pro teams and college programs for about a year before offering anything to the public. Wan brought in scientists and staff from teams in all four major leagues, and he said he wanted them to make "something you couldn't find at any GNC." Rob Dyrdek, the pro skateboarder and MTV host, came on as a cofounder, and a Jackson marathoner named Matt Chorney ran operations as what Wan called "employee zero."
The Park City half of the story began with a retired offensive lineman. Jeff Byers, who played most of his four NFL seasons for the Carolina Panthers, wrote in Utah Business that when he retired, his unlimited access to performance products and experts disappeared. In 2018 he and Erica Good started Amp Human, whose flagship PR Lotion delivered bicarb through the skin, as Bicycle Retailer described it.
Byers admitted he had doubts about supplements. He had used protein and creatine since high school, he wrote, and knew "it could be a messy space." In June 2021 Amp Human merged with Momentous under the Momentous name, and Wan became chief product officer. Between them the two companies already sold to more than 200 professional and Division I teams.
The pitch is testing. A 2024 company release says its entire catalog carries NSF Certified for Sport or Informed Sport certification, and the creatine page says the powder is made in a pharmaceutical facility. TownLift reported that about 60 percent of sales come straight from the company's website and about 30 percent from Amazon.
The office sits in the old Silver Mountain Gym building in Kimball Junction, which is at least an honest address for a protein company. Byers, a Colorado native, told TownLift he had never spent time in Utah before choosing Park City. He picked it as the one mountain town he thought was practical enough to build a serious business in.
The honest note is about money. Momentous is privately held and venture backed, and in February 2024 Humble Growth, a consumer investment firm cofounded by RXBAR cofounder Peter Rahal, bought a significant minority stake. TownLift reported 642 percent revenue growth from 2021 to 2023 and 55 employees, most of them living in Utah.
In December 2025 the state's economic office backed a $10.6 million Summit County expansion with a post performance tax reduction. The company a Harvard freshman once left with a babysitter expects it to add 240 jobs over eight years.
Climber Alex Honnold and photographer Jimmy Chin were among the athlete investors in Amp Human and Momentous when the two merged in 2021.
