Saranoni is a kids and baby brand headquartered in Logan, Utah. It was founded in 2006.
Saranoni started as a way to cover a surgery. Emily and Nathan Peterson's daughter Eliza was born with microtia, without a fully developed ear, and the first operation was expected to cost more than $100,000. In 2006 the couple began selling newborn gift baskets at weekend craft markets out of their River Heights basement. The blanket company they ended up with is run from Logan.
Four years in, by Emily's account, the weekend basket sales were bringing in $100 to $150. The blankets tucked into those baskets were the part customers noticed, so the Petersons dropped everything else and became a blanket company. At one point they filled orders from a storage unit in winter with their kids bundled in the car, the company says.
Nathan was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in November 2021 and died in January 2022. Emily has run the company since.
The blankets are made in China, and staff at the Logan showroom on 1000 West add the embroidery. The company counts 29 wells drilled for clean water in African communities. The business that began in a basement to pay one surgery bill now keeps about two dozen people in a Logan office.
The name Saranoni joins the founders' great-grandmothers, Sarah and Noni.
