Twenty-three brands on this list, founded from 1892 to 2021. The Salt Lake Valley has the most of them, with 8.
This is the other side of the brands that left Utah: companies that started somewhere else and are run from Utah today. Some moved on their own. Peter Metcalf moved Black Diamond and its 45 employees from Ventura, California, to the Salt Lake City area in September 1991 to be closer to the Wasatch. Others came with an owner. Hoyt made cedar arrows in St. Louis from 1931, and after the Easton family bought it in 1983 it moved to Salt Lake City one department at a time.
The starting points are spread wide. Ed Pauls built the first NordicTrack ski machine in his garage in Chaska, Minnesota, in 1975, and the brand is run from Logan now. David and Sheryl Lee Wilson founded Wilson Audio at their home in Novato, California, in 1974, and its speakers are built in Provo. Maggie Sottero began in Sydney, Australia, in 1997 and is run from West Valley City. Sweet Candy started in Portland, Oregon, in 1892 and moved to Salt Lake City in 1900.
A brand is on this list when its founding city is outside Utah and it is run from here now. A North American office alone does not count, so foreign brands that run only their regional business from Utah have a page of their own.
