40°46′N 111°53′W
101 brands on this list, founded from 1866 to 2023. The Salt Lake Valley has the most of them, with 41.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis counted $1.55 billion of Utah's 2024 economy as outdoor recreation manufacturing, along with 4,787 jobs. This list is the consumer end of that number. It holds the brands in this directory that make packs and bags, climbing gear, skis and snowboards, bikes and bike parts, camping and overland gear, or hunting and archery equipment.
The gear makers spread along the Wasatch Front and past it. ULA Equipment cuts and sews its thru-hiking packs in Logan. Peter Metcalf moved Black Diamond and its 45 employees from Ventura, California, to the Salt Lake City area in September 1991 to be closer to the Wasatch. ENVE makes its carbon rims in Ogden, and Hoyt builds bows near the Salt Lake City airport. KSL counted Hoyt bows in the hands of about half the archers at the Tokyo Olympics.
Outdoor clothing and shoes have their own pages, so this list stays with equipment. A brand is here when it was started in Utah, is run from here, runs its North American business from here or makes its products here, and each brand page says which.
